about
After "Photographs," I wanted to wait on trying to make my fourth album until I had enough direction and creative energy. So I planned to take a break and release some singles. "Victimize It!" was one of those singles. A house song about people who lie to get where they are, and when they are called out, they decide to turn around and blame you for calling them out. Gaslighting 101, like a certain former congressman (who was congressman during the writing and recording of this song) in the Central Valley.
lyrics
I'm tired of this bullshit
I'm so tired of it
Apologizing for nothing
And when they call it out
You spin back to "I'm sorry"
And fuck 'em now
So take back your words
And I'll take back mine
Won't follow your notion
'Cause what's not my fault
Is your lack of devotion
Did I say too much?
I haven't properly thanked you
For what you done
I guess I'm the problem...
I wouldn't even consider
Saying these words to you
If you showed some integrity
Behind the things you do
You lie, then scandalize
To hide what's in plain view
And when they call you out
One thing you always do
Victimize it
Victimize it
Victimize it
Sympathize it
Sympathize it
Sympathize it
Victimize it
Victimize it
Victimize it
Sympathize it
Sympathize it
Sympathize it
I'm tired of this bullshit
I'm tired of
All the politicization
You do it so good
And your orientation
With yours like mine
Can't break from the station
I wouldn't even consider
Saying these words to you
If you showed some integrity
Behind the things you do
You lie, then scandalize
To hide what's in plain view
And when they call you out
One thing you always do
Victimize it
Victimize it
Victimize it
Sympathize it
Sympathize it
Sympathize it
Victimize it
Victimize it
Victimize it
Sympathize it
Sympathize it
Sympathize it
Oh did I make sense?
I'm sorry not sorry
Oh did you want me
To be quiet and fall in line
And did I speak up
When you didn't let me?
Now you're the victim
I get that you need this to
Victimize it
Victimize it
Victimize it
Sympathize it
Sympathize it
Sympathize it
Victimize it
Victimize it
Victimize it
Sympathize it
Sympathize it
Sympathize it

Jake Kaufman (aka. Virt) is one of the best chiptune producers/writers out there. The Shovel Knight soundtrack influenced my own works in the genre. Carlton.
A stunning set of post-modern swan songs from Berlin artist Nalan, contrasting gloomy 808s and anguished vocals with ebullient hooks. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 5, 2022
